NAME: Pat Milbery

HOME: Denver, CO

WHAT WAS IT LIKE GROWING UP IN YOUR HOMETOWN? It was like an icy wonderland of hills and freezing cold winter temperatures of Minnesota.

DOES MINNESOTA HAVE A SKI/SNOWBOARD SCENE? Yeah, it sure does. It in fact has a really strong scene. I would have to guestimate that a solid 50% of pros or ripping am's are currently from MN or the Mighty Midwest.

WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO WINTER PARK? The lack of a bro “scene” and the positive energy surrounding the mountain

WITH PARKS LIKE THE RAIL YARD AND DARK TERRITORY, WHAT DO YOU THINK IS NEXT FOR THE YOUNG GUNS? Proving that accessibility is the key to the lock. Kids can create anything them dream up. Build features in the park with the kids and pros together, have them ride it together, and grow naturally through these experiences and interaction, rather than create a a barrier of separation. Less pressure on the contests, more on the fun and creativity of the progression as focus. Allow the kids to find their own niche in the industry.

WHAT'S ON THE HORIZON FOR YOU IN REGARD TO YOUR SNOWBOARDING? Current projects? My peoples and myself at SO-GNAR.COM just finished up a design for Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) that they used for their summer and fall branding campaign. We also designed the Winter Park Rail Yard website. I will be filming for my fourth THINK THANK movie. Very exciting, very fun! I am hosting the 4th Annual Mighty Midwest Snowboard Camp Tour around the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan. We set-up camps in a bunch of local communities to build with the next generation of snowboarders and also do a bunch of filming on tour. Lots of smiles and good times. I have also been working on snowboard graphics and future designs with ARBOR out of Venice Beach. I also have a bunch of designing for other products that I endorse through my other sponsors like The POW "High 5" gloves, the Capix "Milbery" helmets, some VZ goggle prints and a collab Skullcandy Headphones.

WHAT'S YOUR SET-UP?
1. Bindings: Flux bindings, the TITANS, angles 18, -9
2. Boots: I have been riding Van's Aura, BOAs
3. Boards: I ride the Arbor DRAFT for pretty much everything, and the Arbor WASTELAND for deep powder
4. Goggles: The type I wear the Von Zipper feenom's
5. Pants, jacket, gloves: L-R-G or Play Design Jacket and Play Design Pants, I wear POW "High 5" gloves

BEFORE YOU HIT A TRICK, HOW DO YOU PREPARE YOURSELF PSYCHOLOGICALLY? I channel my focus through visualization. I try to imagine myself doing a trick and then do it.

BACKCOUNTRY IS BEAUTIFUL BUT CAN BE STUPID SCARY. ANY WORDS OF ADVICE FOR THOSE WHO ARE THINKING ABOUT THE JOURNEY? I would suggest not eating yellow snow... Then I would recommend taking a class to raise your awareness and knowledge of what to expect from varying snow conditions. Then check out the snow pack with a guide who has experience, before you decide to drop into a new zone.
