FAVORITE FEATURE AT WINTER PARK RESORT: All of the terrain, especially the park is awesome. But my favorite feature at WP are the friends that I ride with. Whenever we pass each other it's always a hoot and holler and nothing but fun times! Everyone there rips and they're all super nice and want to just have fun, instead of being vibed out or hating on everyone else... nobody needs that kind of attitude.
DO YOU WORK OR GO TO SCHOOL? I am a Stone Mason, and I also attended CMC in Steamboat until fall '06 when I completed my Associate in Arts degree. I plan to continue my education in Renewable Energy at Colorado State University so we can keep the snow around!
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN RIDING? Makes me feel old to say it but… 20 years! 23 if you count when I learned how to ski (which I gave up at 8).
WHY WINTER PARK RESORT? First of all the people who ride here are just awesome, there’s no better vibe to be found. And the riding is up to par with that. It was the place I learned how to snowboard when I was 6, as I was born and lived in the valley until 7 years old, then moved to Durango riding at Purgatory (whose park, by the way, is just scary!). I moved back at 19 to be a weekend warrior, and to work for my dad (a longtime GC local) and was so stoked on the Rail Yard that I progressed beyond anything I could have imagined - and although I’m a late bloomer I have nobody else to thank except for WP because of their first class snowboard park and just feeling comfortable and absolutely amazed with the park. The snow isn’t bad either! It’s not just the park that attracts people, the rest of the mountain is just as amazing. No. 1 rating for moguls nearly 10 years running! Check out Drunken Frenchman, just be ready for that burn all the way down. There’s no way out! Then try it switch!
WHAT ARE YOUR INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF SNOWBOARDING? I am very interested in renewable energy. As humankind continues on the path of burning fossil fuels and changing the climate, it’s quite imperative to at least be a part of the solution and not part of the problem, even though our lifestyle dictates that we do continue to burn them with no recourse. The more that we can do as individuals is more than we’ll ever be able to do trying to change government policies, as they won’t change until the ones with the power make it happen. Every little bit counts. That said I’m interested in backpacking and doing anything out of doors where there’s no manmade impact, as the world is a beautiful place! Though skateparks are pretty fun!
WHAT IS ON YOUR ITUNES PLAYLIST? I’ve got the shuffle and it is way varied… from Immortal Technique and Wu Tang to Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline. My music preference spans both generations and lifestyles. I can throw on anything to get my friends or their parents dancing! I think it’s good to be variable.
WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE? As a snowboarder, my ability to ride any feature and do it with style is what makes me unique. I’ve been told that I may not be the best at any one discipline (rails or jumps or pipe), but overall I am right there with the best riders around. I am able to deal with all of the disciplines rather than just having one strong area, I know that I’m not the best at any of them and can name members of the team that would eat me up on any one feature, but overall I’m right there when it comes to going top to bottom thru the Rail Yard. The same goes for the rest of the mountain. Moguls, rock drops, speed, carving, switch, you name it and I can certainly have fun with it and make it look like fun. That’s what 18 years of snowboarding will do for you!
As a person, I’m unique because I keep an open mind about most things and don’t let judgment or bias get in the way.
